A man in Altadena, California recently crashed his car into a homeowner’s backyard pool after his flip flop got stuck in the pedals. The incident occurred on Saturday in broad daylight.

Firefighters were soon dispatched to the home to deal with the situation after a report came in regarding a man who was trapped inside a car that was submerged under pool water.

Somehow, the driver was able to get out of the vehicle before rescue crews arrived. Los Angeles County Fire Department Captain Jeffrey Sims further elaborated “He told us that his shoe or sandal got caught in the pedals of the vehicle and drove through the door in the rear part of his garage and into his swimming pool.”

The sandal Sims referred to is actually a flip-flop. According to the man behind the wheel, it somehow got entangled with the pedals and he soon lost control of the vehicle. The driver, who is reportedly 85 years old, is unharmed and declined medical transport to the hospital.

Fortunately no one else was in the car or pool during the crash. The California Highway Patrol has launched an investigation into the accident.
