Clashes have erupted in Pakistan as two anti-government rallies converge on the capital Islamabad.

In Gujranwala a convoy led by former cricketer, Imran Khan, came under attack from stone throwing hoards.

Officials from Khan’s PTI party claim that gunshots were fired at his bullet-proof vehicle during the clashes.

Khan was unhurt, but scores were injured as panic spread through the crowds.

He said the violence will not deter protesters marching on Islamabad.

The government denied its supporters were behind the disruption.

Tens of thousands more joined anti-government cleric Tahirul Qadri on the road to the capital.

Both groups want Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to stand down.

There is increasing frustration about a sliding economy, growing militancy and a failure to improve infrastructure.
