Oldest European Eel Dies At Age 155

The oldest European eel died this week. Åle the eel passed away in a well in the town of Brantevik, Sweden. Åle the eel was 155 years old. 155! In 1859, 8-year-old Samuel Nilsson threw Åle in the well, because at the time, it was commonplace to keep an eel in your water supply to fend off insects. While having an eel in your water supply was relatively common, having an incredible old eel certainly wasn't. So, Åle became pretty famous… for an eel. RIP, you record-breaking eel!
