If you have plans to stay at the Aloft Hotel in Cupertino, California, you might be in for a surprise. A robot is making the rounds from room to room, bringing requested items to guests.
How would you like to see a robot bring you what you need during your hotel stay?
If you have plans to stay at the Aloft Hotel in Cupertino, California, you might experience exactly that.
The hotel is about to begin testing the SaviOne, which is the brainchild of robotic technology company, Savioke. The machine is referred to as ‘the first delivery robot for hotels.’
The concept is actually quite simple and that’s the goal of it, to make things easier for guests. From the comfort of their hotel rooms, visitors can use a touch screen device to request things they need, like towels and such.
The SaviOne then goes straight to their door with the item. A bin automatically opens and reveals whatever the guest asked for. He or she takes it and touches the screen to let the robot know they got what was needed.
The company says the SaviOne offers ‘service with a robot smile.’ The SaviOne measures 3 feet tall and weighs just shy of 100 pounds.
The robot is equipped with sensors that help it navigate autonomously throughout the hotel. While some are concerned the robot concept will eliminate jobs in the hotel industry, Brian McGuinness, the Senior Vice President of Starwood's Specialty Select brands, says the SaviOne will not ‘replace human talent’ .
