The next time you have some time off, how about a course at NIM in Uttarakashi?
Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) is rated as one of the best mountaineering institutes in India and also considered as the most prestigious mountaineering institute in Asia. NIM was established at Uttarkashi on 14th Nov 1965 to honor the desire of Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, who was an ardent mountain lover, or so he claimed to be!
Regardless of Mr. Nehru and Mr. Gandhi, the NIM is today one of the finest adventure sports institutions in India, is professionally run, and their Basic, Adventure, Instructor's and Advanced courses are some of the best to be had in the Himalaya, at par and possibly better than the WHMI in Manali and the HMI in Darjeeling. Peaks that climbing students get to climb around include Draupadi ka Danda, Bhagirathi, banderpunch, Swargarohini, Gangotri, Rudragaira, Jogin, Thelaysagar, Bhrigupanth and many more...
