In association with internationally acclaimed fashion designer Atsu Sekhose, the Nagaland Women development department showcased Naga textile art and design at a fashion show on the first day of Hornbill Festival, Saturday at Bamboo Hall, Kisama. Held under the theme 'Celebrating Naga textile art and design', the show offered a glimpse of the department's activities focusing on the achievements of women partnering with the department. The materials and textiles used for producing most of the garments have been developed and woven by Naga womenfolk at the department's Textile Resource Centre, Meriema.

For the other garments, the department's in-house designers developed indigenous Naga tribal themed prints and motifs which were then printed on various materials using digital printing technology and other conventional methods. Presented under the brand name 'Myki', the garments bore a distinct Naga ethnicity, yet which was very modern and appealing. The designs and garments produced by the team of in-house designers of the Textile Resource Centre included a collection of trendy and contemporary pants, tops and dresses for women and men's collection of shirts, pants and topcoats. The collection relied on creative use of bright colors and smart clean silhouettes.

The Myki collection included a line of clothes in camel and beige tones using hand woven textiles of silks and cotton, accessorized with accessories and jewelleries, including footwear which have been manufactured by an uneducated, self-taught, single Naga mother.Myki also showcased a collection of military inspired men's wear with sharply cut tailored coats accessorized with Naga motif print scarf. Atsu Sekhose's collection under his eponymous label 'Atsu' continued to inspire, with his creative and refreshing use of textiles developed at the Textile Resource Centre. The collection for women featured chic pencil skirts, peplum top, shirts, jumpsuit and dresses, among others, bearing his trademark impeccable clean cuts and smooth lines.

"The Hornbill festival held in the first week of December shows that with its stunning natural beauty and great cultural traditions, Nagaland can offer a rich fare to tourists. NAGALAND, with its diverse tribal culture, is a land of festivals. A narrow strip of mountainous territory with rugged hills, emerald valleys, sparkling streams and a rich variety of flora and fauna, the 16th State of the Indian Union has salubrious climate throughout the year. It is bounded by Assam in the west, Myanmar in the east, Arunachal Pradesh in the north and Manipur in the south. Sometimes referred to as the `Switzerland of the East', Nagaland represents unimaginable beauty, moulded perfectly for a breathtaking experience. For the adventurous, the State is an ideal place for trekking and jungle camping and offers limitless possibilities for exploring its lush sub-tropical rainforests, which are a treasure trove of medicinal plants. The 20-lakh-strong Naga people, by nature, are fun lovers, and life in Nagaland is one long festival."
