Trees nearly killed from carving names by careless expeditioners, Nanda Devi

2014-08-12 1

View of Nanda Devi (finally!) from the Pisgah ridge, after days of scrabbling through the gorge.

Indian Army Sappers and ITBP (Indo Tibetan Border Police) expeditions to Trishul and Nanda Devi carved their names into these tree trunks, within the Nanda Devi Sanctuary - a real pity! A Czech going to climb the north face of Kalanka did similar damage, thus nearly killing the trees on which they wrote their notes. This is seen at the Dibrughetta camp where we also discovered multiple skins of Musk Deer, killed by poachers...

But you must shoot the messenger, so the forest department filed cases on the cameraman!
