The birth of panda triplets at a Chinese zoo is being called a ‘miracle’.

One reason for the proclamation is that triplets surviving after birth is believed to be unprecedented.

Another is that their panda’s typically have a very low reproductive rate.

The trio came into the world on July 29th and was quickly moved to an incubator.

It’s said that the mother was too exhausted after the births, which occurred over a period of more than 3 hours, to care for the young.

They’ve since been returned to her, but remain under 24-hour watch.

Zoo staff is also helping mom with the feedings.

Despite being the only known panda triplets to thrive after birth, experts at the zoo are hesitant to proclaim the babies have passed through the danger period until they have survived for six months.

Said one, "We can only say they are surviving once they reach six months. For now they are indeed the only surviving triplets."

At the time of their birth, each was smaller than the palm of a human hand.
