The Paites are one of the constituting tribes of the Zomi who inhabit Burma, India and Bangladesh. The word paite means " a group of people marching " or 'Walkers' in a word,"Pai-walk" "te-people"). The Paites are a recognised scheduled tribe in Manipur as well as in Mizoram. The Paites concentrated in Manipur, a northeastern state of India.

The Paite tribe constitutes the fifth largest tribe in Manipur, out of the 33 tribes recognised as Scheduled Tribes by the Government of India. In 1956, under the list of tribes recognised and scheduled by the Government of India in Manipur, the tribes who were recorded by the Government as 'Paite' petitioned to be known and recorded according to their own distinct tribe name, which was granted to them, so in all 33 tribes, with their distinct tribe names, came to be recognized by the Government of India.

The main population of the Paites is concentrated in the district of Churachandpur in the Indian state of Manipur. The Paites are known to be peace loving and quiet by nature, and have lived side by side with many other tribes in the region.

The Thadous ( Thadou te) are people of an ethnic tribe native to north-eastern India, Chin state and Sagaing Division in Burma (Myanmar) and eastern Bangladesh and speak Thadou[1] pao.[2] In Manipur, they are mostly found in Churachandpur district, Senapati district, Ukhrul district, South-Western Hills and Sadar Hills, Chandel district and Jiribam . They are one of the largest tribes among the Kukis.

Thadous are known as:

Thadou by the Chins of Myanmar(Burma).
Lusuong by the Lushais/Mizos.
Khongjai/Khongsai by the Meiteis.
Khongchai/Khachami by the Tangkhuls.
Kusamei by the Maos.
Makheng by the Anals.
Thangkumsa by the Kacharis.
Kuki/Cuci by the Bengalis.
New Kuki by the Britishers.
