Thick oak and deodar (Himalayan Cedar) mixed forests in Kumaon. A moth rests on the moss-covered trunk of a forest Oak (Quercus) and in the ravines one has a concentration of Oak and Alder. Oak forests are said to trap and tap rain water in order to augment groundwater reserves and often discharge the same in a slow manner, in the form of perennial springs and streams.
