In giving free summer drinks to locals, passersby and commuters, this group of Delhi residents believes they are doing charitable work. But what they have no idea about is that they are causing the worst kind of pollution by introducing thermocol and plastic into the system. Thermocol is suspected to take hundreds of years to bio-degrade and for a moment of use, hundreds of years of landfill space gets wasted.
Worse, we don't have enough landfills to accommodate all our junk in India, so most such filth gets thrown behind cities, onto government lands and otherwise arable land, causing a mosquito menace when mosquitoes start breeding in water trapped between the thermocol plates.
Plastic is used for cups that are used and thrown away without any suitable recycling or garbage disposal in mind.
So much for doing good...!
