The Big Bang theory is the most popular scientific explanation about the origin of our universe, but it still falls short according to the known laws of physics.

Now, scientists have come up with an alternate theory that they think does a better job of explaining how our universe came to be.

Astrophysicists from the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and the University of Waterloo in Canada have published a study that says our known universe might have been the product of a black hole in a fourth dimension.

Black holes in our three dimensional universe have a two-dimensional boundary, so a black hole in a higher dimension would have a three dimensional boundary.

The proposed four dimensional black hole would have to be caused by the collapse of a four dimensional star.

Astrophysicist Doctor Alan Duffy from Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia is quoted as saying: “The idea that we come from the 3D edge of a collapsing 4D star in another universe might sound bizarre but at this point we want to test every explanation of the earliest days of our Universe.”

If the theory is accepted, it would still raise the question of the origin of the fourth dimensional universe.
