Barcelona, Aug 10 (EFE).- Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen, officially presented as Barça's new transfer Sunday afternoon, said he wanted to begin a new stage in his career and that Barcelona was "the best possible destination" to do so.
"I came to this club for a fresh start", said Vermaelen, who suffered from several muscle injuries during his last season at Arsenal. He added that, even though injuries are a part of a player's career, it was tough and that he only wanted to look forward to next season, in which he wanted to play as many matches as possible.
However, the Belgian will still not be able to do so, as he has to recover from a muscle injury on his right thigh.
Despite his muscle problems, Barcelona's Director of Football Andoni Zubizarreta said he was "convinced" that Vermaelen would highly contribute to the team during his time at the club.
