One young Indonesian girl who was swept away in the 2004 tsunami and believed to be dead has been reunited with her family.

The tsunami that hit many parts of Indonesia and Southeast Asia in 2004 claimed over a quarter of a million lives.

One young Indonesian girl who was swept away by the water and believed to be dead has been reunited with her family.

She was only 4 when the tsunami struck her hometown of Aceh, and has spent the last 10 years living with the family of the fisherman who found and rescued her.

The disaster also claimed one of her brothers, and the distraught family soon after relocated to another town.

Not long ago, one of her relatives said he saw a girl who bore a striking resemblance to the lost child.

He learned that the girl was living in a nearby province and that she was one of the people pulled away from Aceh by the violent waters a decade before.

They are convinced she’s the child they lost long ago, but said they are willing to take DNA tests to prove it.

Next, they hope to find the young boy who disappeared as well.
