A group of students, identified as the Moscow Student Initiative, projected a brief series of images onto the US Embassy.
One featured the American leader with a banana in his mouth and a party hat on his head.
The portrait was accompanied by the message ‘happy birthday’.
Shortly after the public display, the group took to social media to announce they were the ones responsible for it.
They also posted a video of the short demonstration to YouTube.
It wasn’t, however, the only racially-charged, anti-Obama exhibit in the area.
Across the street from the projection, banners were unfurled showing illustrations of the president in the poses of the ‘Three Wise Monkeys’.
They featured the text, "I don't see … I don't hear … I don't speak the truth to anybody".
