Gurucharitra Adhyay 18
Poet: Saraswati Gangadhar Saakhare
The Shri GuruCharitra is a holy book for Datta Sampradaya devotees. The book includes the life story of Shri Narasimha Saraswati, written in 14th century, in Marathi.

This Adhyay describes the piousness and holiness of Amarapur and Shri Guru blesses a vipra who was very poor. The vipra became rich because of the blessing by Shri Guru. Hence this Adhyay is recited by the devotees for removal of poverty.

The story goes like this. There was a vipra (Brahmin) family having two children. The family was very poor. The vipra every day used to go to the village for Bhiksha, where people give him rice, wheat and flour for preparing food. Whenever vipra don't get anything from the villagers, the family use to eat the beans from a creeper which was in the court-yard of his house. One day Shri Guru came to his house for bhiksha. Vipra took Shri Guru to his house. Vipra’s wife serves food to Shri Guru as bhiksha. Shri Guru blessed the family and went away. However while going he took out the bean creeper and thrown it out. The bean creeper was serving as a food to the family in case of need. As such the wife started crying accompanied by children. However the vipra was very quiet. He was very much sure that Shri Guru had blessed them by visiting his house for bhiksha. When the vipra was digging out the remaining root of the creeper, he found a vessel filled with gold and was very much pleased. The family was very happy and they came to know how Shri Guru had blessed them and removed their poverty. One has to recite this Adhyay 18 with devotion, concentration and faith and then only Shri Guru’s blessings will reach to him.
