The man was on his way to his favorite fishing spot when a bear snuck up behind him and lunged.
Not long into the viscious attack the lucky victim got a phone call and his ringtone, Bieber’s song ‘Baby’, started to sound.
It was enough to alarm the bear and send it running back into the woods.
The fisherman was able to call for help and was soon found and rescued.
He did not, however, walk away from the attack unscathed.
Among the injuries he sustained were cuts and deep bruising on his face and upper body.
That’s still a lot better that the likely outcome had the Bieber song not played when it did.
Said one wildlife expert, "Sometimes a sharp shock can stop an angry bear in its tracks and that ringtone would be a very unexpected sound for a bear."
The fisherman said he owed a great deal of gratitude to his phone and his granddaughter who had installed the song as a joke.
