Save Chaudhry Nisar says that Article 245 has been imposed to fight terrorism.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar during a session of National Assembly said on Tuesday that Article 245 has been imposed to fight terrorism, Dunya News reported. Army and legal experts were consulted before its enforcement, he added.
Responding to Khursheed Shah’s label of Article 245 as mini-martial law, Chaudhry Nisar during a National Assembly Session said that Islamabad has not been handed over to the army. The National Assembly Session was presided by speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar stated that if the opposition parties demand then Article 245 can entirely be excluded from the constitution. He said that those criticizing the government must not overlook the facts. We have already stated that the article has nothing to do with politics, he argued. He claimed that Article 245 has been used for political objectives in the past and has been enforced 24 times from 2007 till date.
We have been warned of terrorist activities by the intelligence agencies but we don’t want to create panic among the people, said Nisar. Reacting strongly to the critics of Article 245, he said that in case a terrorist activity happens in Islamabad, all the opposing parties will raise fingers at the government for not taking any protective measures in spite of threats. He informed that nine sensitive areas have been identified which he said will not be named. However, he told that army has been deployed on Margalla hills for security reasons and in order to legalize their deployment Article 245 was imposed. Army will be called out wherever required to assist the police and civil society. Army has been deployed in Islamabad for past 7 years.
In 2010 alone 11 terrorist attacks were reported in Islamabad. It’s the responsibility of the government to protect the country. Therefore, the objective is to secure the federal capital and pre-empt any possible terrorist attack. He ensured that army would not be used for any political objectives nor would it interfere in the political matters of the country. Army will be called out to assist the police force or the civil administration in order to maintain law and order whenever required, clarified Nisar.
