The House of Representatives votes to crack down on Central American migrants, who are flooding to the U.S. border with Mexico.
House Republicans passed a $694 million border security bill by 223 - 189.
The bill would deploy National Guard troops at the southern border and speed up deportations.
The vote comes despite a veto threat by the White House and the measure won't advance further until September as the Senate is on recess.
Later on Friday, the Republican led House also passed a separate bill that reverses President Barack Obama's policy of deferring action against minors brought to the US illegally by their parents.
It was passed by a vote of 216-192.
This bill would also stop Obama from expanding his policy to other groups of undocumented immigrants.
But the Democratic-controlled Senate is not expected to consider it.
