A man in South Carolina, Melvin Roberts, is sharing his terrifying experiences with lightning. Throughout his life, Roberts says he has been struck 10 times.
He described the feeling as something along the lines of being cooked. He said “It's like grabbing an electrical cord. You don't feel the burns until it's over with. It cooks you from the inside out like being in a microwave.”
Roberts claims people who have been struck by lightning know what’s going on around them but have no control over their body. The aftermath of a strike is a deep pain that can be felt all the way to the bones.
News outlets covered a story about Roberts back in 2011 when he was hit by lightning. At that point, he had already been struck six times and according to his wife, he’s been hit four more times since then.
If their numbers are correct, that makes Roberts a world record holder for the most lightning strikes an individual has been able to survive. Given that each lightning bolt is estimated to be about 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit, the 10 strikes have done their damage.
Roberts claims he has bad headaches and even sees dead people. For your own protection experts and Roberts agree, stick to the age old advice ‘when thunder roars, go indoors.’
