Sebastien Tellier has released his new album L’Aventura. It is a concept album combining French pop and electro and set in a mythical part of Brazil, which he says is all about his childhood, and being faced with the task of growing up.
“Brazil was the perfect place for my record because I tried to re-write my childhood in a better way,” he said. “My childhood was really normal, a very flat childhood like in a suburb of Paris where all the houses are the same.”
He has been working through the past as he worked on the album: “For me it was a problem. Like, why am I like that? Maybe if I want to be unique it is because I come from a neighborhood where all the houses are the same.”
He hopes that all this comes through to people when they hear the album: “When you listen to it, it’s very happy, it’s very sweet, very smooth, but deeply sad, as if I’m saying goodbye to my childhood. I have to become a real adult with a baby and a wedding and so I have to be really serious. So this album just explains that, and the intense pain of being a real adult because it’s so easy to be a kid.”
