Instead of straddling the vehicle, riders sit far back into it, similar to the driver positioning inside a go-kart. The operator and his or her passenger sit side by side in waterproof bucket seats.

The ‘Slingshot’ has an open-air cockpit and a short windscreen, allowing riders to experience the world as if they are on a motorcycle. The streamlined body has a wide chassis constructed of tubular high-strength steel.

The vehicle is targeted towards buyers who want to feel the air and scope out the surroundings like they are riding a bike but prefer the safety of a car. According to Polaris, weight centralization is of utmost importance.

The 2.4-liter aluminum-block engine is located just behind the front axle where it reportedly provides 170 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque, to the rear wheel via a five-speed manual transmission.

The battery is situated low and behind the driver’s seat. Three-wheel disc brakes and ABS help the ‘Slingshot' make emergency stops easily. The vehicle weighs about 1,700 lbs, making it land on the heavy end of the scale when compared to other road-worthy, three-wheeled options on the market.

The ‘Slingshot’ will go on sale this Fall, starting at $20,000.
