Verdi tenor Bergonzi dies at 90

One of the leading Verdi tenors of the 20th Century, Carlo Bergonzi, has died.

He made his operatic debut in 1948 as a baritone in Rossini’s Barber of Seville. He retrained his voice and made his debut three years later as a tenor.

Carlo Bergonzi died in Milan just weeks after his 90th birthday.
