Sony’s latest signing is a heavy metal band – Unlocking the Truth – whose members are all just 12-13 years old.

The boys have signed a contract worth $1.7 million (1.26 million euros) to record two albums with the company, plus options for more.

Bass player Alec Atkins says it is all great being in the band: “It’s fun because they are my friends. So I can’t imagine doing anything better then playing in a heavy metal band with them.”

Malcolm Brickhouse plays guitar and writes lyrics. Jarad Dawkins plays drums. They have been together for several years, appearing at festivals in the US as well as playing on the street in New York.

Unlocking the Truth are just the latest ultra-young signing in a music industry which markets increasingly extreme youth.

They follow in the footsteps of other talented youngsters who were discovered and signed whilst still under age including Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber et al.
