A massive sinkhole opened up on Saturday in Spring Hill, Florida and it caused significant damage in one neighborhood.
“Very scary, out of nowhere the earth just went straight up in the air, it exploded up in the air straight up and dirt and everything fell down.” [Via ABC]
The sinkhole, which measures roughly 120 feet wide and 30 feet deep, first started swallowing the street before spreading to private lawns and residences.
“Literally a jaw dropping sight, makes your heart pound just getting close to it. Lets go up here to the fence, take a closer look but not for too long because we have to stand back for safety.” [Via WTSP]
Four families were evacuated, but the residents of three houses have since been permitted to return.
The huge sinkhole may have to be filled with sand and cement. Caution tape has been installed throughout the neighborhood to keep everyone away from the opening.
One property owner who lives only feet away from the giant hole, Cate Carter said “This is bad stuff. It could come this way. It could go that way. Who knows? It's very scary.”
