STORY: Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, the daughter of the much respected General Aung San who was assassinated at the age of 32, commemorated the 67th anniversary of Myanmar's Martyrs' Day on Saturday.

The ceremony to remember the independence leaders who were assassinated before the country's independence from Britain, was held at the Martyrs' Mousoluem in Yangon.

Martyrs' Day marks the assassination of General Aung San, the architect of the country's independence from Britain, and eight others on July 19 1947. They were killed whilst holding a cabinet meeting in Yangon. Myanmar gained independence from Britain the following year.

Members of the public and families of the deceased also paid their respects at the Martyrs' Mausoluem during the national holiday.
