An ice cream treat helped an alleged crook land in jail. Police in Lewes, Delaware were dispatched to a local apartment complex shortly before 11 P.M. on July 14th after an alarm was triggered.
When cops arrived, they found 47-year-old Richard M. Walls entering his car in a dark parking lot. They approached him and soon noticed a cable box, controllers and a flat screen TV in his vehicle.
Sure, all that stuff was suspicious, but what really stood out was what officers called a ‘frozen vanilla fudge drumstick ice cream treat.’ The treat stood out because the victim of the break-in had told cops ice cream had been taken from his freezer.
Also stolen was the electronic equipment. Law enforcement easily put two and two together.
According to Delaware state police Corporal Gary Fournier, Walls stated he purchased the treat at a convenience store; however the empty box had been left inside the victim’s freezer and matched the treat in the suspect’s possession.
Walls was arrested and is now facing charges of ‘second-degree burglary; four counts of second degree attempted burglary; possession of burglary tools, theft under $1,500 and five counts of criminal mischief.’
