Former New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin has been sentenced to 10 years jail for bribery and corruption in the United States.
Nagin was found guilty earlier this year on 20 counts of corruption including taking cash bribes, receiving cross-country holidays and also evading tax, and was ordered to pay $84,264 in restitution.
He became an internationally recognised figure as he led the recovery of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, serving as mayor from 2002 to 2010.
Following the devastating storm contractors came to the city looking for rebuilding work.
Prosecutors say the former mayor "sold his office over and over again", accepting bribes and soliciting kickbacks months before the hurricane, and continued to line his pockets for years afterwards to a cost of more than $500,000.

Nukes vs Duck Hunters
The plant was locked down after two people in green camouflage were spotted on property adjacent to it, said Carson County Sheriff Tam Terry.
"Somebody saw some armed individuals dressed in camouflage clothing exiting the vicinity of the plant," the sheriff said.
Officials at the Pantex Plant near Amarillo, which maintains the safety, security and reliability of the US nuclear weapons stockpile, ordered a lock-down at about 8 am CST (1400 GMT), plant officials said in a statement.
Police found the pair of hunters setting out duck decoys and building a blind on property near the plant.
"They were very co-operative and compliant," Sheriff Terry said. "We identified them. We checked their criminal history."
