The state of California has the eighth largest economy in the world, but local Silicon Valley billionaire Tim Draper has come up with a ballot measure that would change the face of the Golden State. The campaign, called Six Californias, has created a proposal to separate California into six different states along geographic lines.

“Here is the vision that Tim Draper has for California. Sectioned off into six different states with most of the Bay Area in a state called Silicon Valley.” [Via KTVU]
The 'Six Californias' has reportedly gotten enough signatures to be placed on the ballot two years from now.
“When ATT was a monopoly, they broke it up and I guess 6, and those 6 companies gave us all much better service and then they all got more valuable. And I believe the same thing can happen here in California.” [Via Commonwealth Club/Tim Draper]
The six states starting from the north would be named Jefferson, North California, Silicon Valley, Central California, West California and South California.
People opposed to the idea say that the United States Congress wouldn’t approve the measure, even if it passes with a majority of voters, and it wouldn’t help the problems that are being faced by California.
