A massive full moon, often referrred to as a "supermoon" appeared over Greece on Saturday (July 12) hovering over an ancient Greek temple on the country's coast.
Instances of such moons happen a few times in the year and are due to the moon's proximity to the earth during its orbit. The moon appears brighter and larger.
These pictures show the moon by the ancient Greek temple of Poseidon, the mythological God of the sea, on the southern coast of mainland Greece in Cape Sounion, some 69 kilometres from Athens, its size and radiance overwhelming the ancient marble columns.
Two more such moons are expected to appear in the next few months.
