A woman driver in Sante Fe found out the root of her car troubles and it wasn’t quite what she expected. A 7-foot-long, 20-pound Burmese python was found right under the hood.

The female’s Toyota Tacoma stalled on the side of the road. A Good Samaritan, Jackson Ault pulled over to help her.

Once he popped the hood and looked down, he spotted what he called ‘a large spotted lump.’ Ault remarked “She screamed at the top of her lungs, and jumped back about 10 or 15 feet. I started screaming some obscenities, cause it really caught me off guard.”

According to the gentleman, the snake flicked its tongue at him. Both Ault and the driver were terrified so they called for help. Santa Fe police Lt. Louis Carlos and an animal control officer arrived on scene and dealt with the slithery creature.

Carlos pulled the python out with his bare hands. Reflecting on the incident, Carlos said his first thought was ‘cool I want to hold it!’’

After the lieutenant got in some bonding time with the female python, she was given to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society. Staffers there believe she crawled under the hood to get warm.
