Two adorable animal pals at Dallas Zoo recently celebrated their first birthday. Winspear the cheetah and Amani the black Labrador both had their party at the zoo and visitors were invited to watch them eat their birthday treat.
Two adorable animal pals at Dallas Zoo recently celebrated their first birthday. Winspear the cheetah and Amani the black Labrador both had their party at the zoo and visitors were invited to watch them eat their birthday treat.
The unusual pair has been together since they were both two months old. Keepers decided to place them in the same enclosure when they discovered the pooch has a calming effect on Winspear.
Amani helps Winspear feel more comfortable on display for public viewing. The animals got a chicken-flavored popsicle cake for their shared birthday. The so-called cake was actually a 200-pound popsicle comprised of low-salt chicken broth, canned milk and 40 gallons of ice.
The special treat was placed in the middle of an enclosure.
Dallas Zoo staffer Sean Greene remarked “Cheetahs are shy, so the dog instills confidence in him whenever they go to new places. There is also an outgoing personality to the dog, and the cheetah wants that attention, so their relationship is very natural.”
