Mel Gibson honoured at Czech film festival

STORY: Hollywood actor and film director Mel Gibson was awarded the Crystal Global for Outstanding Contribution to the World Cinema at the opening of the Czech Republic's annual Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on Friday (July 4).

The 58-year-old was greeted by press and fans as he walked the red carpet, before being presented with the prize by festival President Jiri Bartoska.

The star of "Lethal Weapon" and "Braveheart" said he enjoyed portraying stories that moved people.

"Telling stories is the real gratification. When you see the child eyes light up or when you see the audience respond, I saw just the general public out here tonight and they were at some point moved by something I did and this the most gratifying," he said.
