Tension has flared in the Gaza Strip, Sunday.

Israel said its aircraft attacked 10 sites used by Palestinian militants in response to persistent rocket strikes from the enclave.

"Experience proves that at such times we must act responsibly and with equanimity, not hastily. We will do whatever is necessary to restore quiet and security to the south."

But he cautioned against wider confrontation with the Hamas Islamist group, the dominant force in the Gaza Strip.

While the Hamas armed wing is no match for Israel's powerful military, the group has long-range rockets that can strike the Israeli heartland, including the business capital of Tel Aviv.
