The charity hopes the video will raise awareness and a collective realization of this alarming phenomenon. They have also taken the campaign to social networks using the #StandUpWorldCup hashtag and are urging web users to retweet and share the keywords as much as possible, with messages denouncing the sad link between domestic violence and the World Cup.
The movement is receiving strong support from British web users, and is not the first campaign of its kind. In the run to the 2014 World Cup, the Brazilian authorities launched a vast campaign aimed at highlighting the problem of violence towards women in Brazil, which came with a purpose built mobile phone app and website. Tools designed to gather reports from victims of violence in order to point them towards the government agency best equipped to help them.
