The 2,067 prints in the Peter Britt Photograph Collection document life and landscapes of southern Oregon. Most of the photographs were taken by Swiss immigrant Peter Britt between 1854, when his Jacksonville studio opened, until he retired in 1900. Britt’s son, Emil, joined the business in 1883. The legacy of Peter Britt (1819-1905) lives on not only in the photographs that document lives and landscapes of southern Oregon, but in his contributions to southern Oregon’s economy, culture, and horticulture.
