New York lawmakers have passed a bill that will make taking selfies with tigers illegal in the state.
At large, the legislation prohibits those who own and exhibit big cats from allowing the public to get up close and make contact with them.
Lions and leopards are also off limits.
Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal is behind the legislation and said she introduced it due to the rising number of attacks occurring at venues like fairs and circuses.
The bill’s passing has set off a flurry of reports and commentary about the fate of online daters, mostly male, who use the tiger photo ops to add an extra dose of manliness to their profiles.
It’s been pointed out that as of late sites such as OK Cupid and Tinder are overflowing with them.
Rosenthal says she had no idea that taking selfies with a tiger was a means of attracting a mate when she proposed the bill, she was simply concerned about safety.
On the matter, however, she commented, “They can still pose with bears and monkeys. They just have to take big cats off their list.”
