A suicide bomber blew up a car near an army checkpoint in the Lebanese capital Beirut on Monday evening.
The blast killed a security officer and injured around 20 people watching Brazil play Cameroon in the World Cup in a nearby cafe.
It happened in the mainly Shi’ite Muslim district of southern Beirut where supporters of a Hezbollah-linkeg group, Amal, live.
Lebanon has suffered a wave of sectarian violence linked to the war in Syria.
Security forces were already on high alert after a suicide attack on Friday near the Syrian border which killed one person and injured scores more but narrowly missed the chief of Lebanon’s General Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim.
