The design firm Giopato & Coombes recently took part in the ‘Flydeas for the City’ contest put on by the Anglo-Italian helicopter company AgustaWestland. Giopato & Coombes was selected by Milanese architect Giulio Cappellini and asked to create an upscale interior for AgustaWestland’s two-engine commercial rotorcraft called the AW169.

The group went to work and created something that can only be described as magnificent. Although the space inside the chopper is compact, the designers propose placing windows all around to give passengers a bird’s eye view of the world.

The interior conveys a home-like vibe. An integrated wall composite contains ‘noise-reducing nano-materials’, ‘fiberglass beta-cloth’ and LED lights.

The closely arranged furniture gives the space a cozy feel, as does the paint colors and décor. The seats are all cushioned with large head restraints to give passengers a sense of comfort.

Between the chairs are tracks for a folding table that can open up. Four curved LG televisions are hung to line up with the seats. The beige, powder pink and sharp yellow paints all help to absorb noise.

Bonuses include a champagne cooler, coffee machine and custom designed headphones. The airbag system expands after the hold has been closed ensuring travelers’ luggage is safe from the vibrations. All the extras translate to a pretty impressive VIP experience.
