Man Charged With Attempted Murder For Throwing Hot Grits At Neighbor

A man in Orange County, Florida has been charged with attempted second degree murder. The accused, 60-year-old Edward Holley allegedly threw hot grits on the victim, identified as 29-year-old Darryl Blacknell.

The two men are neighbors and had a hostile relationship prior to the altercation. The arrest report states Holley previously threatened Blacknell, telling the victim if he came around again he would toss grease on him.

So on the day of the incident, when Blacknell was back at Holley’s residence playing cards with mutual friends on the porch, Holley allegedly walked into the house, heated up the grits and threw them on the other man.

Grits are a ground-corn food. The dish is commonly served as breakfast in the Southern United States and become piping hot when cooked.

As a result of the assault, Blacknell encountered severe second- and third-degree burns on 30 percent of his body. Holley reportedly admitted to officers that he threw the grits.

During the arrest, he told cops “If you are going to arrest me, then just arrest me now, 'cause next time I am going to kill him.”
