A policeman in Baltimore has been accused of slitting a dog’s throat. The officer, identified as Jeffrey Bolger, was charged with aggravated animal cruelty. Police were dispatched to an area of southeast Baltimore after a loose dog nipped at someone.

According to the canine’s owner, Sarah Gossard, the 7-year-old Shar Pei named Nala had slipped through a gate in her backyard on the day of the incident. Bolger was dispatched to the scene to assist.

Nala was contained with a dog pole. For unknown reasons Bolger allegedly brandished a knife and slit her throat after she was restrained.

According to Gossard, Nala was not aggressive but was lost and scared causing her to bite a woman on the hand. Although Bolger has already been charged and suspended without pay from the department, the investigation into the case is ongoing.
