An 89-year-old man living in Philadelphia has been charged for his complicity in the deaths of over 200 thousand Jews at Auschwitz.
The warrant for his extradition was issued by a German court a year ago, and recently police arrested Johann Breyer and placed him in custody.
He is currently being held and awaiting an extradition trial.
Breyer’s attorney contends that the elderly man suffers from mild dementia and other heath problems.
Nonetheless, the accused appears to fully comprehend his current situation and the seriousness of the charges that have been placed upon him.
He doesn’t deny that he was a guard at the Auchwitz concentration camp, but says he had nothing to do with any of the killing that went on within.
Breyer has been in the US since 1951, and since arriving, he has worked, retired, and raised 3 children.
For the past 20 years of his American life, he’s been fighting to stay.
In that time, both the US and Germany to have tried to have Breyer returned to his native country due to his involvement in the World War 2 death camps.
