Three years on, the Syria spillover has triggered a full-blown eruption in neighbouring Iraq, with Sunni radicals carving out vast swathes of territory. The whole of what was exactly one century ago the Ottoman Empire is already groaning under the weight of refugees and spiking sectarian tension. When a rocket falls in a Christian neighbourhood of Syria the effect is felt 780 km away in the capital of Armenia. We meet the refugees who are Armenian in name and Syrian by birth.
