Police in Florida have issued a warning to locals regarding the presence of a 10-foot long loose alligator. The alert comes after a half eaten pit bull was witnessed floating down a canal in Sebastian.
Police in Florida have issued a warning to locals regarding the presence of a 10-foot long loose alligator.
Law enforcement suspects the canine was partially eaten by the gator, although it’s not known if the animal drowned or was killed by the large reptile. The alligator reportedly spends most of the day in and around a canal which is situated next to residential homes and a dog park.
Debra Roetzer lives very closed to the gator's stomping grounds and is responsible for finding the dead dog’s body. She’s seen the alligator first hand. Roetzer remarked “We see the gator every single day, and he’s a big one. He’s very shy. If I get anywhere close to take a picture or even come close just to take a look at him, he goes under.”
Police are now asking residents and park visitors to keep children out of the water. They’re also being advised to leash their pets at all times. State wildlife staffers are working to track the gator.
