I can sit here and say it is time
as I pack my poetic affairs,
no more free verse or silly ole rhyme
let me lug all my stuff down the stairs.
I have learned to be tolerant, true,
to shut up when the freaks need to talk,
I don't know about many of you
but for me it is high time to walk.
Over Christmas, the leisure permits
to withdraw with all luggage intact,
this was never the Poet's own Ritz
as in all of the features it lacked.
As they say, it's the captain who steers
and who always must take the first nip,
from the evidence though it appears
that this one will remain on the ship.
It takes courage to stand up with pride,
and to deal with one's fellow man,
when it sinks one must quickly decide
though I doubt that this officer can.
