Margery Rehman - Evening Tea-Dance by the Seine.

2014-06-18 9

Pretty demoiselles
In flowered summer dress
Adventurous young men
Shyly forward press
Inviting them to join the dance.

Elders looking on
Shake disapproving heads
As swaggering swain
Shows too romantic an aim
By asking her to dance again.

Having her own mind
For he's handsome, tall and fair
She lets him take her hand
Ignoring their dark glare
And joins him in another dance.

Such memories waltz through her head,
Whatever happened to that handsome boy
So clearly seen in her mind's eye?
Like her, grown old and gone to seed
That lovely lad with dancing feet.
