Obed dela Cruz - What if I am a Jew?

2014-06-18 13

What if I am a Jew?
Would you still care to love me?
Can I still be your friend?

What if I belong to
The people who are lonely,
Those who have nothing,

Would you want to meet me?
Will you remember my name?

Maybe you're reading this
Just because you want to know
Whether I will speak of

The common prejudice,
Usual lines in a show,
Or the voice of my soul.

But I would tell my truth
Rather than instant, dying fame.

There is a plague caused by
The corporate greed of men,
From both the rich and poor.

For I see tyranny;
It happens again and again
Whichever the class be,

They have part in the blame.
Tell me, who is in between?

For my eyes see children
Coming from different lands
They all have hopes and dreams

And I hear them crying
As they try to raise their hands
Hoping that we could see.

Go, take a closer look
Maybe you'll know what I mean.

Are their cries too loud that
You have to cover your ears?
Oh no, please open them.

For they tell of their world
Despite the youth of their years.
And the hour they are heard,

The hour that we help them,
Is the day virtue has won.

So stop the wars and fights,
Those unnecessary crimes!
Take off the prejudice

And be liberated
To the truth here in our times:
That there can still be peace

If we just realize
There will be if we are one.
