Somanathan Iyer - A dark night with no moon

2014-06-17 6

Far from the lights
Far from the village
A lonely shed
In the middle of the fields
Me and two others
Guarding a harvest
Climbed up the balcony
For spending the night
Darkness everywhere
We had our torches
Ghosts like trees
Howls of jackals
Sleep was evading
Fear in some corner
Lying on our backs
We watched the sky
Studded with stars
The sky was bright
Some twinkled bright
Some looked faded
Some appeared red
Some appeared silver
Shooting stars
With lightning speed
From west to north
East to south
Constant and thrilling
The process continued
A gentle breeze
From the top of the trees
Kindled our bodies
Soothing our senses
With a pleasant feeling
We slipped into sleep
