meggan o reilly - The Old Mans Shoes

2014-06-17 4

Sitting on the bus waiting to get home
Unfamiliar faces mostly unknown
Going to the same place each day
Stuck in traffic now even more delayed

We come to that stop again clonturk avenue
The same man gets on with his hat in his hand and wearing his same old dancing shoes
He asks for his fare and recieves his ticket

Walks down the tiny isle sits down and once again starts to fidgit
He keeps his head down and never passes a look at me or you
But the locals just seem to stare at him aswell as the other unknown few.
They stare at his shoes and i know what thery are thinking

''Will he not go buy a new pair' as they roll there eyes up to heaven without blinking
But these shoes mean so much more to him than they would to you or I
He has danced with his wife for 45 years in them, these are the reasons why he will not pick new shoes to buy

His wife passed away 6 years ago
The last dance he had with his wife he will forever know
Moral of this poem is to not judge someone by their appearance
Dont make them feel awkward or out of existence
You may ask how do i know this man loves his torn shoes

Simply by looking at the bottom of his shoes...
''I love my mary'' is what says
His shoes forever ripped and torn but the love forever stays.
