Charles Darkly - A Love Poem for the Vastness of Space

2014-06-17 4

I pull tight the faded thin fibers
of substandard issue flight jackets
with patched on corporate branding
claiming my body and soul as their
possession
even as we drift millions of miles
from the disconnected designs
of Terran pillagers
making me a big bang marauding
martyr to their flaws and affects
Outer space encapsulates
intensified loneliness in a
soulless void sprawling
in all directions
that overwhelms with piercing
frigidness
Huddled and shivering I stare
longingly through thick shielded glass
at the blurred nebula
of our home world stars
Drifting steadily away with each
passing second
as lurching solar sails harness
precarious radioactive winds
I navigate the unforgiving treachery of
these dizzying supernova fathoms
with no hint of fear crossing
my face
But secretly I fear miscalculated
wandering into theoretical curves
of space
where time distorts and perception becomes
a cosmic joke as black hole years
go by in minutes
Haunted by the dark matter
of our angry last words to each other
forever scattered unresolved
across starlit purgatory
